Andrea Espinoza, ‘11, remembers living in New York City, where she once witnessed a black man walking with a white woman. For three blocks, every single black woman stared at him. She said it wasn’t uncommon for strangers to yell at or even chase couples down the street.
Espinoza’s story was one of many told on Sunday, when dozens of students came together to discuss interracial dating at the UMOJA house.
Several students defined interracial dating differently.
Some students say interracial dating is when there is a visible difference between a couple. However, others argue that it is difficult to tell someone’s race just by looking at them.
