But somehow there’s a strange mediocrity behind Black Singles Connection that seems to suggest that the site is little more than a domain name for a specific target market. Perhaps it’s because it doesn’t have a lot of unique African American community features or maybe it’s because Rastafarian was oddly left off the list of religious backgrounds. Either way, this site holds value and it unfolds like this . . .The profiles are quality at Black Singles Connection. Unfortunately, the ratio of African American Single members with pictures to those without isn’t all that favourable. For my searches, I’d say just under half have pictures you can view. You can see this in a couple of ways. Either there are a lot of shy people or the extra blank profiles are for the sake of padding. However, after looking through them, I’m satisfied that at least a decent portion are living, breathing, keyboard-carrying surfers. Presentation and search features here are really robust and navigation on the site is intuitive. The site provides a savvy set-up for surfing and seems to add splashes of color in all the right areas. Flash animated drop-down menus help the design sparkle while options for profile searches are pretty standard, meaning that you can search for detailed characteristics found within the profile criteria. When it comes to pricing, the $20 a month is fairly middle-of-the-road. So if the profiles near you happen to be plentiful and interesting, it could be worth the investment. Free access on this site gets you in the door and experiencing a lot of what BlackSinglesConnection.com has to offer. You can browse profiles and search for members based on a wide range or criteria. You can even send signs of interest but you can’t contact or be contacted unless you buy a membership. Membership stats are another interesting thing. There is no sign of any statistics on numbers and even when contacted the only response they could give was “I don't have an exact number on membership. There are thousands on the site and the database grows daily.” However, the Alexa.com ranking at the time of this review was about 6,000 suggesting that they have a solid number of daily visitors that they should be vocal about. Black Singles Connection takes a few hits on scoring, but it should be mentioned that they are really targeting a niche market. With the focus narrowed, it may be less important that they don’t boast of huge memberships or that they require you pay before making any connections. What is important is that you are able to be put in touch with the black singles community and can make magic happen from there!
