Black and white relationships
Thanks for educating us on the man-foreign woman dynamics. I recently saw an episode of NBC’s Nightly News, and as part of a series featuring the lives of Black women, Brian Williams interviewed several Black women about their love lives. To my surprise, one of the ladies, who was married to a white guy, would say on national television that she had resisted the white man’s overtures for a long time, but when she could not find a decent Black man to settle down with, she decided to give the interracial relationship a try. Talk about a woman who was proud of her heritage! I am not against interracial relationships, but when Black people, especially the men, assume that their social status will increase simply by being with with a white woman, nothing could be more ridiculous or catastrophic! Like you said, there are people (Type A, according to your piece) who genuinely fall in love with members of the opposite sex of other racial groups, and no one begrudges them. It is those men — your Type Bs — who falsely believe that sleeping with white women places them above other Black men who are the pathetic souls among us. Yes, we need to start educating our men to take pride in being Black! Of course, some will stereotype the Black woman, but which racial group does not have its own sterotypes? What bothers this scrivener is the sad case of rich Black men, who, instead of marrying fellow Black women and keeping their wealth in the Black community, seek “elevation” of status by marrying outside of their race, thereby leaving the already poverty-plagued Black societies worse than they could be! Successful Black men — entrepreneurs, athletes, crooners — should leave a legacy that other Black people can be proud of! By marrying their own kind, these successful Black men would be saying to our Black women that they are desirable, pretty and worthy! Personally, nothing turns me on than seeing ebony skin over an hour-glass figure! For me, she does not need to wear “a ‘Kaba’ that hugs her body ever so snugly” to make her desirable! Well, just don’t tell my wife I said that!
